October 15, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to welcome AFC 615 as a new member.

Based in Nashville, TN, AFC 615 began UPSL play with the 2020 Fall Season as part of the Expedition Division. The club is hosting its UPSL home games at Lighthouse Christian School (5100 Blue Hole Rd, Antioch, TN 37013) this season before moving to East Nashville Magnet High School in 2021.

National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Desmond Armstrong ('12) is Owner of AFC 615 and co-Manager of the UPSL's Expedition Division. Armstrong played for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, and the 1990 World Cup in Italy. A native of Washington, D.C., Armstrong is a University of Maryland men's soccer alum and won a National Amateur Cup as a player in 1986.

"I know the landscape of soccer in this country better than most with my intimate involvement in everything from the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup to MLS Development Academy and U.S. Club Soccer," Armstrong said. "We believe that soccer in America is less than 20 years away from solidifying a functional infrastructure that develops world class players. The national reach of the UPSL and its amateur men's status provides the vehicle by which young, aspiring, talented players can be launched toward securing their dream of playing professionally."

Doug Kranz, who serves as co-Expedition Division Manager, said, "It's been an incredible experience working with Desmond as a member of the UPSL. From our first call you could hear the consummate professionalism he brought to the USMNT and as a Hall of Famer. He brings the exact same effort and focus to the business side of the sport. We share a vision for developing the UPSL in the Mid-South region and we believe it will have a significant impact for all involved."

AFC 615 (0-1-0 overall) opened its UPSL 2020 Fall Season with a 2-2 draw in the Expedition Division season opener on Sunday, October 4.
